Known as the "Queen City of the Northern Mines," Nevada City has prepared for its future by carefully preserving it's past. Nevada City's restored and colorful downtown historic district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally named Deer Creek Dry Diggins, the town's name was changed to Nevada in 1850. A few years later it became Nevada City after a new state to the east borrowed its name.
